How to Write a Great a Operations Supervisor Resume that Gets Interviews

As Operations Supervisor, you like a good workflow and system. It’s your job to optimize and lead the team to continuously hit those KPIs sent from the corner office.

The problem is, your systematic approach to writing a resume isn’t working. Where do you start? How do you format an Operations Supervisor resume? What do you include in these sections? If only there existed a resume template for you to just fill in the blanks…

Luckily, you’ve landed in the perfect place.

We’ve measured the KPIs (interviews and job offers) and have created an Operations Supervisor resume template to yield the highest returns.

We’ve even added a resume example to show you what the final product should look like.

By the end of this article, you’ll have a completed resume and the skills to replicate its success for any job you apply to.

Prefer to have someone else write your Operations Supervisor resume?

We can make that happen, too. The experts behind this resume template and guide can write your resume for you. In fact, they’ll even do it for free (tips are always appreciated).

What to Include in an Operations Supervisor Resume

Your resume includes five key sections:

  • Professional Headline
  • Professional Summary
  • Work Experience
  • Education
  • Keywords

We’ll guide you through what to include in each section, and how to optimize the contents to position yourself as the ideal candidate for any recruiter.

Before we get started, here are couple tips to keep in mind for formatting your Operations Supervisor resume:

Keep it simple.

Forget the elaborate multi-column colored resumes with multiple fonts and extravagant formatting. For someone who reads resumes all day, these elements are just distracting and make it more difficult to find the information they’re looking for.

Make it easy for your recruiter and stick to the single-column streamlined format you see in the resume example.

Don’t use paragraphs.

For the same reasons above, avoid all paragraphs. You can provide the same information in lists, short phrases and bullet points. This makes your resume easier to read and easier to absorb the information you provide.

Rethinking your resume altogether?

It’s not too late to have Leet Resumes write your Operations Supervisor resume for you. Try it out today for no-risk, and one great reward.

Name + Contact

First, type your full name at the top of the page. Choose a font that’s professional and legible, then make it slightly larger than the rest of the text.

Directly underneath, add your contact information: phone number, email address and location (just your city and state will do).

Be sure to include a professional email address and not the hobby yahoo address you use to sign up for birthday rewards at restaurants.

When in doubt, the simple firstname_lastname approach always works.

Professional Headline

The first section of this resume template is your professional headline. Think of it as the attention-grabbing headline of an advertisement of your career as Operations Supervisor.

A good headline makes a recruiter want to keep reading to learn more. A generic or lackluster headline might land you in the “No” pile before they even read about your accomplishments.

To capture their attention, start with a slightly flattering adjective that puts you in a positive light, like: economical, results-oriented, cost-effective, industrious, team-oriented, professional or detail-oriented.

Next add a word to describe your level of experience: senior, executive, assistant, junior, etc.

Finally, add your official job title: Operations Supervisor.

When your professional headline is complete, you should have something like this:

Diligent Senior Operations Supervisor.

Now you try!

Professional Summary

Your headline got their attention. Now it’s time to show them why you’re the best candidate for their open position.

The professional summary is best used as a template to be customized for each job you apply to. Don’t worry, even though it’s a little more work on the frontend, it’s a more efficient method of landing interviews and job offers: decreasing the overall length of time you spend on the job market.

In the first line, list all the job titles you’d accept for your next position. Most importantly, include the exact title for the role you’re applying for.

In the second line, add the most relevant skills and capabilities in your arsenal that apply to your targeted position.

Depending on the department and industry, this will include a mixture of professional skills, technologies and software or specific certifications. The best way to know what to include here is to look at the listing and find the skills they’re looking for that match with your own.

The third and fourth lines are optional.

If you have the experience and accolades, include your career achievements as Operations Supervisor in line three, and any awards or promotions for your work in line four.

If nothing comes to mind, don’t worry about it. Many Ops Supervisors only have the first two lines and that’s plenty to get you an interview.

Work Experience

Alright, let’s talk about KPIs.

As Operations Supervisor, it’s your job to make sure your team is hitting key performance indicators to better the company as a whole. When you write up your department’s quarterly report, you don’t just list what you did over the quarter, you outline the results.

In the same way, focus the work experience section of your resume on the results you bring to a company through your supervision.

Start by listing your previous work history in reverse chronological order. Refer to the resume example above on how to format your official job title, dates of employment and previous employer. It’s important to be accurate here, so if this requires a little digging to get the necessary information, it’s absolutely worth it.

Under each entry, add a bulleted list of your accomplishments in each role. These are the results-oriented KPIs that will make your resume stand out from the rest.

Here’s how to craft converting bullet points for your resume:

Start with a strong success verb

Rather than listing your duties and responsibilities, focus on the results you brought to the company by starting every bullet point with a strong success verb.

These are actions that imply the positive outcome of your work before you even mention the details, like: boosted, maximized, optimized, improved, reduced, advanced or enhanced.

These replace tepid verbs like managed, oversaw, performed or implemented which don’t say anything about the end result of your work.

Add as many numbers as possible

It is essential to include as many numbers as possible to validate your claims and help your potential employer visualize the success you bring to a company.

Rather than “Improved inventory management system,” you might include, “Improved IMS speed by 30% by increasing real-time inventory updates by 42% and consolidating over 400 redundant SKUs.”

Numbers are specific and leave no room for questions or doubts. It shows a recruiter exactly how much you contribute, the kind of workload you can manage, the size of the team you’re used to supervising and how you create measurable results that add to the company’s bottom line.

Include every promotion

For a potential employer, promotions show that your work is worth rewarding and people like keeping you around. It’s a powerful indicator of your previous success, and strong social proof that you’re a great hire.

Don’t be modest here. Include every promotion you’ve received for each position.

Education

Brief and succinct, the education section of this resume template only serves to provide context to the rest of your professional success.

You can skip any extracurricular activities or incomplete degrees, and just include these four basics:

  • Where you attended school
  • The dates of your attendance
  • The degree(s) you obtained
  • Any awards or honors you graduated with

Keywords and Skills for an Operations Supervisor Resume

Finally, you’ll close your resume with a full list of relevant skills to the job position you’re targeting. Copy the formatting of the resume example above and include a custom list of your professional abilities, including:

Soft Skills to highlight how you manage a department and approach problems:

  • Leadership
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication
  • Analytical Problem Solving
  • Critical Thinking
  • Project Management

Hard Skills of your position as Operations Supervisor

  • Staffing & Recruiting
  • Inventory Management
  • Employee Training
  • Scheduling
  • KPI Reports
  • Performance Reports

Technologies you use to do your job (remember, nothing is too obvious to include here)

  • Microsoft 365
  • Spreadsheets
  • CRM
  • Zoho/Ordero/Upserve

Once you’ve placed the final skills and technologies in your keywords list, your Operations Supervisor resume is complete!
