What to Include in a Sales Consultant Resume
While it’s not quite like walking a client through their GPCTBA, everything you need to include in your Sales Consultant resume fits into these five sections:

3. Know Your Customer
Even though you can’t speak with your recruiter to understand and decode their needs, you do have helpful insight in the posted job description. The goal of this article is to create a resume template that you can customize toward each job you apply for by using the information they share in the job listing.
For example, if you’re applying for a luxury jewelry sales position, you’ll want to highlight your high-end sales experience, professionalism and fashion background.
If you’re applying for a software sales position, your CRM proficiency and written communication skills should take precedence over your fashion experience.
This tailored approach provides a custom solution for each recruiter and is sure to land more interviews.
Name + Contact
Start with your first and last name at the top of the page. Choose a font that’s both professional and legible then make your name slightly larger than the rest of the text on the page.
Add your phone number, email address and location directly underneath. Just your city and state are necessary, but your full address is okay, too.
Your email should be professional and one you check regularly. Finally, keep your socials off your resume, including LinkedIn.
Your professional headline is a three to five word phrase that sums up your sales career so far.
Think of it as the headline of an advertisement that has all the essential information front and center.
Instead of “BOGO Sale One Day Only,” it’s: Energetic Junior Sales Consultant
Or, maybe: Experienced Luxury Sales Consultant.
Each of these give an immediate image of what kind of consultant you are and help the recruiter decide if they’re going to keep reading, or not.
To craft the perfect professional headline, start with a positive adjective that’s slightly flattering.
Something like professional, devoted, positive or team-oriented are some ideas.
Once you’ve chosen an adjective that best describes you and your work ethic, add a word that acknowledges your level of experience (junior, senior, assistant, lead, etc.), then add your job title.
When you’re done, it should look something like this: Professional Lead Software Sales Consultant.
After your professional headline has piqued their interest, your professional summary draws them in by summarizing the benefits and value propositions of hiring you as their next Sales Consultant.
In two to four lines, you’ll list the highlights of your resume – custom-tailored to the job you’re applying for.
In line one, list the job titles you’d accept for your next job. These don’t need to be positions you’ve already held, just ones you’re qualified for and interested in doing.
Just be sure to include the exact job title in the job posting.
In the second line, list the skills and attributes that qualify you for these positions.
Since you have many skills that go into being a Sales Consultant, tailor your selection to include skills listed in the job description. They’ve essentially given you a list of their pain points, now you can list the ways you can solve them.

Your work experience section gives you the opportunity to highlight your sales successes and the consulting skills you celebrate within your own career.
Start by referring to the resume example and listing your previous jobs in reverse chronological order. Be 100% accurate with each job title and the dates of employment.
Then, add bullet points under each role highlighting the ways your work brought success, value and revenue to your previous employer.
This isn’t the place to list your job duties like you’re writing an instruction manual. Instead, tell the story of how you listened to customers, found solutions that satisfied their needs and increased the revenue for your company. Here’s how:
Start with a strong success verb.
Success verbs are words that not only refer to an action, but the positive outcome of the action.
As a Sales Consultant resume example, you should replace verbs like “sold, managed, or performed” for success verbs like: improved, boosted, enhanced, exceeded, or outperformed.
Numbers are the best way to create a specific image for your potential employer. No matter how many times you “boosted revenue” or “enhanced the customer experience,” if you don’t add a number, there’s no way of knowing the true impact you made.
To write an effective resume, you need to add as many numbers as possible. When you think you’ve added enough numbers to each bullet point, try to double that amount again.
Each number you include increases your chances at landing an interview.
Add your promotions.
Promotions are social proof that you’re a great hire.
Not only does it show that your work is so good that it’s worth rewarding, but it tells your future employer that people like keeping you around.
For that reason, add every promotion you’ve received in your list of bullet points.
To sum it up, when you’re tempted to list how you “Assisted clients with custom solutions,” swap in success verbs and numbers until you arrive at: Generated over $2,000 in daily sales by assisting an average of 5 customers each shift.
Keep this section brief and succinct.
List where you went to school, the degrees you graduated with, the dates you attended and any honors or awards you received. Extracurricular activities and incomplete degrees can be left off your resume completely.
Resume Keywords and Skills for a Sales Consultant
In the final section of your resume, list the keywords and skills that highlight your expertise. As in the resume example, these are listed at the bottom of the page in no particular order.
Here are some examples of what to include:
- Interpersonal Skills: collaborative, self-motivated, excellent verbal and written communication, customer service
- Sales Skills: project management, proposals, cold calling
- Technologies: Salesforce, Hubspot, CRM, POS
